Luca Flores, born on October 20, 1956, in Palermo, Italy, was a pianist and composer. He began playing piano at age five while living in Mozambique with his family. Returning to Italy in 1966, he studied at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence, graduating with honors in 1981. Flores' encounter with jazz occurred in the early 1970s, leading to collaborations with notable artists such as Chet Baker and Lee Konitz. His debut album, Riddles, was released in 1986 with the Tiziana Ghiglioni Sextet. He formed the Matt Jazz Quintet and later the Luca Flores Trio, participating in major Italian festivals. Notable albums include Where Extremes Meet (1987) and Love for Sale (1991). Despite his talent, Flores struggled with mental illness, which ultimately led to his suicide on March 29, 1995. Posthumous releases such as Innocence (2019) have continued to recognize his contributions to jazz.
