Helio Matheus, born on July 5, 1940, in Brazil, was a singer and composer known for his work in MPB, soul, and funk music. He started his career performing in nightclubs in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, releasing his first single "Elefantinho de Marfim / Caixinha de Música" in 1968. His breakthrough came with the composition "Comunicação", performed by Vanusa at the 1969 Festival Internacional da Canção and later recorded by Elis Regina for her 1970 album Em Pleno Verão. In 1975, Matheus released his debut LP Matheus Segundo Matheus, featuring notable musicians like Oberdan Magalhães and the band Azymuth. Throughout his career, he composed over 150 songs for various artists including Sérgio Reis and Dominguinhos. In his later years, Matheus faced health issues including alcoholism. He passed away on February 9, 2017, from pneumonia.
