Marian Henderson, born Marian Grossman on April 16, 1937, in Melbourne, Australia, was a folk and jazz singer. She started playing piano by ear and later sang jazz with rock and roll bands. In the early 1960s, she formed The Thunderbirds with Don Henderson. Her breakthrough came in 1962 with the trio Daw, Hood And Henderson, releasing an EP titled Oh Pay Me. From 1963 to 1964, she performed regularly at Sydney's folk music club The Troubadour. Henderson appeared on television shows like Jazz Meets Folk and performed at the Australian Newport Folk Festival in 1965. Her solo album Cameo was released in 1970. She retired from music in the late 1970s but made a final recorded appearance in 1988. Henderson died on May 21, 2015, at age 78.
