Peter Ponzol, born on November 15, 1938, in Philadelphia, is an American jazz saxophonist, flutist, and instrument builder. He received private instruction and studied at the Institute of Fine Arts before moving to New York City, where he collaborated with Joe Gallardo and Abbey Rader, recording the album Prism (1978). Ponzol's career included notable collaborations with artists such as Todd Rundgren, Monty Alexander, Randy Brecker, Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb, Art Davis, Bob Moses, Mike Nock, and Larry Young. In 1981, he came to Germany with a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service, performing with the Hessian Radio Jazz Ensemble and the Frankfurt Jazz Big Band. He returned to the United States in 1993, focusing on developing saxophone mouthpieces for Keilwerth and his own mouthpiece series, as well as performing with his own groups. His notable subsequent albums include Conversations (1983) and Soundscapes (2000).
