German bassist and bandleader Karoline Höfler was born in 1962 in Tübingen. She initially learned guitar for ten years before switching to jazz and double bass at age 20 after an Elvin Jones concert. Höfler studied under Thomas Stabenow and performed with Claus Stötter's band and in Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s opera Die Soldaten. She completed her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart between 1987 and 1992. Höfler initially played in all-female bands like F-tett before founding Charly Haigl’s Festival Band in 1992, known for its original compositions. She has collaborated with various artists, including Dizzy Krisch, Four Roses, Timeless Art Orchestra, Bobby Burgess Big Band Explosion, Hans Koller, and Annie Whitehead. Höfler received the Jazzpreis Baden-Württemberg in 1995. Notable releases include Karoline Höfler Presents: Charly Haigl's Festival Band (1994).
