REKK, once a five-piece band from the Ruhr valley in Germany, is now a loose collective built around Matti Kaiser, a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and singer that collaborates with old acquaintances as well as new musicians. Together with guitarist and producer Moritz Bailly, they recorded this new album in pieces — solo in isolation, and together between Hamburg, Berlin, Waltrop, and the Ruhr valley.
Their songs start out as simple singer/songwriter numbers, but quickly draw the listener into an intense maelstrom. This is ensured not only by Kaiser's intimate lyrics, but by the organic interweaving of up-and-coming musicians from various genres of jazz and classical music, such as violist Gabriel Uhde, pianist Sophia Oster (Sophia Oster Quintett) drummer Dominic Harrison (The Collective Abroad), guitarist Filip Dinev, trumpeter Philipp Püschel (ROCKET MEN) and Pele Götzer (Astra Kid, Pele Caster).
"Well, The Story Is" the second studio album by REKK and will be released by the Wuppertal-based indie label Stargazer. REKK’s first studio album, Sixtytwo (2016), also released by Stargazer, was positively received by both the press and fans, sending the band on an extensive tour of Germany where they played in living room concerts and clubs, and opened shows for AnnenMayKantereit, Kevin Morby, and Pohlmann.
