KAT is a Polish heavy metal, speed metal, and thrash metal band formed in Katowice in 1979. They are considered one of the most influential bands in Polish and Central European heavy metal. They were founded by guitarist Piotr Luczyk, who initially invited drummer Ireneusz Loth to join. They were later joined by bassist Tomasz Jaguś and guitarist Ryszard Pisarski. They released their debut single "Noce szatana / Ostatni tabor" (1984) with lyrics written by Robert 'Lor' Milewski. They released their debut album Metal and Hell (1986) alongside its Polish-language version 666 (1986). Their most famous album is Oddech wymarłych światów (1988). Original vocalist Roman Kostrzewski died from cancer in 2022.
