Susan Weinert, born on June 24, 1965, in Neunkirchen, Saarland, Germany, was a jazz guitarist, composer, and producer. She began playing the guitar as a child and later received training from notable musicians such as David Liebman, John Abercrombie, and Mike Stern. In 1985, Weinert formed the Susan Weinert Band with her husband Martin Weinert on bass and Hardy Fischötter on drums. The band initially performed cover songs but began featuring Weinert's original compositions by 1990. Their debut album Mysterious Stories was released in 1992. In 2004, Weinert founded Tough Tone Records with her husband, releasing several albums including Running Out of Time (2004) and Dancing on the Water (2006), both of which featured Francesco Cottone. Notable collaborations include working with musicians like Leszek Możdżer and Julia Hülsmann. Weinert passed away on March 2, 2020, at the age of 54 due to complications from cancer.
