Yuliy Chersanovich Kim, born on December 23, 1936 in Moscow, is a bard, composer, poet, and songwriter. He began writing poems and setting them to music during his student years at the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute. After graduation, he taught in Kamchatka. In 1969, Yuliy Chersanovich Kim signed an appeal to the UN Committee for Human Rights and participated in the Soviet dissident movement. With the advent of glasnost, he began performing legally and gained acclaim throughout the Russian-speaking world. In 1998, Yuliy Chersanovich Kim moved to Israel but continued touring Russia, Europe, and the United States. Notable albums include Рыба-кит (1987) and Иерусалимская тетрадь (2010). Yuliy Chersanovich Kim's songs, such as "The Brave Captain" and "The Black Sea", have been featured in numerous Soviet movies including Bumbarash, The Twelve Chairs, and An Ordinary Miracle. He also notably received the Bulat Okudzhava Prize of the Russian Federation.
