Satoshi Ashikawa, born on May 7, 1953, in Japan, was a composer and musician known for his contributions to ambient and electronic music. He graduated from Keio University's Department of Sociology in 1977 and began his musical career with performances at galleries and cultural spaces across Japan. Ashikawa founded the record store Art Vivant in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, in 1975, which became a hub for the environmental music scene. His keyboard piece "Still Space" was featured on Light in the Attic's compilation Kankyō Ongaku: Japanese Ambient, Environmental & New Age Music 1980-1990. In 1982, Ashikawa co-founded Sound Process with Munetaka Tanaka. The label released his only full-length album, Still Way, which featured celebrated percussionist Midori Takada and was reissued in 2019 by WRWTFWW Records. Ashikawa died in a car accident on July 29, 1983.
