Lattimore Vernon Brown, known as Lattimore Brown, and born on August 20, 1931, in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, was a southern soul singer. He formed a vocal group called The Shady Grove Specials while attending a local church and began his music career with the release of two singles for Zil Records in 1960. In 1962, he recorded three singles for Duchess Records, which sold poorly. In 1966, he started performing under the moniker Sir Lattimore Brown and signed with Otis Redding's RedWal touring agency. Brown's most successful single, "Otis is Gone" (1968), was released as a tribute to Otis Redding after his death in 1967. Despite collaborations with notable artists like Fats Domino, Ray Charles, and Muddy Waters, Brown's records did not achieve significant commercial success. In 2009, he released his final compilation album Nobody Has to Tell Me. Brown died on March 25, 2011, after being struck by a car in Pensacola, Florida.
