Symbyosis, a French death metal progressive and melodic group from Paris, Île-de-France, was formed in June 1998 by Franck Kobolt. The band's origins trace back to Kobolt's personal project Chrysalid, which initially consisted of four private compositions. In 1998, Kobolt collaborated with Phil Quist and Corrosive Bob, expanding the project into a full-fledged group. Symbyosis recorded their debut studio album Crisis in 1999 at Hidden Association studios, releasing it under Listenable Records in 2000. The band embarked on tours with No Return and Crest of Darkness in 2001. In September 2001, Symbyosis faced challenges when Listenable Records did not renew their contract, leading them to produce subsequent albums independently. Despite financial struggles, the band released On the Wings of Phoenix, a double album featuring 24 tracks and covers of Slayer and Iron Maiden, in 2005.
