The Spokesmen are an American pop music trio consisting of John Medora, David White Tricker, and Ray Gilmore. The group is best known for their 1965 hit single "The Dawn of Correction", a partially sarcastic response to Barry McGuire's protest song "Eve of Destruction". The tune reached number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Medora and White, who had previously co-written several hit singles including "At the Hop" for Danny and the Juniors, "You Don't Own Me" for Lesley Gore, and "1-2-3" for Len Barry, were also responsible for writing "The Dawn of Correction". The group released their debut album The Dawn of Correction in 1965. They also recorded a remake of the Beatles' "Michelle", which received significant airplay on WIBG 990AM in Philadelphia. Other notable singles include "It Ain’t Fair" and "I Love How You Love Me". The group's music was characterized by its catchy melodies and clever lyrics, often addressing social and political themes of the time. Gilmore, a longtime radio personality at WIBG, brought his experience and connections to the group, helping to promote their music and secure airplay. White passed away on March 16, 2019, at the age of 79.
