The Slickers was a Jamaican reggae band, active in the 1960s and 1970s. The group initially consisted of Derrick Crooks and his brother Sydney Crooks, along with Winston Bailey. In the mid-1960s, Abraham Green joined the lineup around the time "Johnny Too Bad" was recorded. The Slickers gained significant attention when their song "Johnny Too Bad" was featured in the 1972 film The Harder They Come, starring Jimmy Cliff. This exposure led to successful tours in the United Kingdom and the United States. The band released several albums, including Many Rivers to Cross (1976) and Breakthrough (1979), before disbanding in 1979. "Johnny Too Bad" became a popular cover song, recorded by various artists such as Jim Capaldi, UB40, Sublime, and John Martyn.
