J.W. Jones was born on July 15, 1980, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He began his music career as a drummer before transitioning to guitar. His first significant breakthrough came at age eighteen when he won the 1998 R&R Concerts "Battle of the Bands." In 2000, Jones signed with CrossCut Records (Germany) and released his debut album Defibrillatin' in 2001. Throughout the 2000s, he released several albums including Bogart’s Bounce, which featured performances by Kim Wilson and Gene Taylor; My Kind of Evil, produced by Kim Wilson; and Kissing in 29 Days. Jones has collaborated with notable artists such as The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Little Charlie & the Nightcats, and Hubert Sumlin. He has released ten studio albums and one live album, touring extensively across four continents. Significant achievements include winning the International Blues Challenge “Best Self-Produced CD Award” in 2017 for High Temperature and being named Best Guitarist in 2020.
