Roel Cortez, born Roel Corpuz on November 13, 1957, in the Philippines, was a singer-songwriter. He rose to fame in the 1980s with hit songs such as "Napakasakit, Kuya Eddie" and "Dalagang Probinsyana". His breakthrough came in 1984 with the release of "Napakasakit, Kuya Eddie", which became an anthem for overseas Filipino workers. Cortez released several albums throughout his career, including Tanging Pag-Ibig Mo (1986), Paniwalaan Mo (1987), and Isang Iglap (1990). In 1992, Universal Records released a compilation album titled Best of Roel Cortez, which featured 16 of his notable songs. Cortez also found success with his Tagalog version of "Baleleng" and "Iniibig Kita". He passed away on April 1, 2015, at the age of 57 due to colon cancer.
