First prize in singing at the Paris Conservatoire, holder of a Master's degree in Musicology from the Sorbonne, opera and operetta singer and choir director, Mathieu Sempéré has the ideal tenor profile for the 2010s. One of those who, following in the footsteps of Luciano Pavarotti, have allowed their voices to escape from the classical repertoire for the shores of variety. Mathieu Sempéré became a household name in 2009 when he joined the Les Stentors quartet. At the same time, Mathieu Sempéré tackled the repertoire of Francis Lopez on stage and solo. In April 2014, he performed his own interpretation of Luis Mariano on Revivez la Légende - Luis Mariano 100 Ans, which met with considerable public success.
A native of Montpellier (Hérault, France), Mathieu Sempéré holds a Premier Prix de Chant from the Paris Conservatoire and a Master's degree in Musicology from the Sorbonne. This background has enabled him to sing oratorios and opera arias with his tenor voice all over Europe. Like many voices trained in classical music in the 2000s, Mathieu Sempéré felt the need to venture into new territory. Following in the footsteps of illustrious predecessors such as Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli, he decided to tackle a variety repertoire. In 2009, he experimented with the Les Stentors quartet with the album Voyage en France (2012), featuring covers of popular French songs.
Also a choir director, Mathieu Sempéré continues to broaden his horizons by tackling the repertoire of Francis Lopez on stage. This operetta lover couldn't pass up the centenary celebrations of Luis Mariano's birth in 2014. He revisits the Irun-born singer's songs in sometimes astonishing ways, with contributions from Chico & the Gypsies and Chantal Ladesou on the album Revivez la Légende - Luis Mariano 100 Ans. Released in March 2013, the album hits the French bestseller list in April.
