María Enriqueta Garay Villarreal, known professionally as Queta Garay, was born on January 26, 1935, in Villaldama, Nuevo León, Mexico. She began her career as a singer after moving to Monterrey and working at radio station XEOK. In the late 1950s, she relocated to Mexico City and signed with DIMSA Records, releasing her first LP in 1959. Garay gained significant recognition for her hit "Chica ye ye" in 1965, earning the "Radio Éxito" award from the media. Between 1963 and 1964, she received five "Ángeles" awards for song popularity and five "Micrófonos de oro" from the Asociación Nacional de Locutores. Throughout her career, Garay released notable albums including Bailando con Queta Garay, La chica ye-ye, and Bravo. She passed away on August 20, 1980, in Mexico City at the age of 45 due to a respiratory cardiac arrest and acute tubular necrosis.
