Ruby Lovett is an American country music singer-songwriter born on February 16, 1967, in Laurel, Mississippi. She began her musical activity at age six by recording a 45 rpm disc featuring the songs "One Day at a Time" and "Me and Jesus". During her youth, Lovett won the True Value Country Showdown for three consecutive years, began writing songs at age ten, and formed her first band at age thirteen. While working as a radiographer at a hospital in Nashville, she signed a recording contract with Curb Records. Her debut studio album, Ruby Lovett, was released on January 13, 1998, and was produced by Allen Reynolds, Shelby Kennedy, and Jimmy Metts. The album's single, "Look What Love Can Do", reached number 73 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. Lovett’s recording career and songwriting received professional reviews in publications such as Allmusic, the Los Angeles Times, Billboard, and People.
