Eric Gaffney (born December 25, 1967) is an American alternative rock, lo-fi, and hardcore punk songwriter, drummer, and recording artist from Cambridge, Massachusetts. Gaffney began home recording on cassette in 1981 and participated in the Western Massachusetts hardcore scene. In 1983, he founded the band Grey Matter, and later joined No Preservatives as a vocalist in 1984. Gaffney co-founded Sebadoh in 1988, producing the artwork and local distribution for the cassette The Freed Man. Following a three-record deal with Homestead Records, Gaffney departed the group in 1993. His solo discography featured the albums It Lights Up & Spins Around (1998) and Brilliant Concert Numbers (1999). He led the project Fields of Gaffney and performed at the Noise Pop Festival in 2002, 2003, and 2007. In 2007, he reunited with the original members of Sebadoh as “Classic Sebadoh” for a North American tour. His catalog featured twenty recordings distributed digitally worldwide.
