Phil Donkin, born November 1980 in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom, is a British jazz bassist. He began playing electric bass at age twelve, initially performing with rock bands before moving to London in 1998 to focus on jazz. From 1999 to 2003, Donkin studied classical double bass at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Colin Paris. His professional career started in 2002, collaborating with notable musicians such as Stan Sulzmann, Bobby Wellins, and Martin Drew. In 2012, he released his debut album Dimaxis. Throughout his career, Donkin has worked with a diverse range of artists including Paul Booth, Guy Barker, and Ivo Neame. He lived in New York City from 2010 to 2013, collaborating with musicians like Ben Monder and Kevin Hays. In 2017, he formed the trio Uncanny Valley with Tom Challenger and Oliver Steidle. Donkin released the album Walk Alone in 2023.
