Switchblade Symphony was an American gothic rock band founded in 1989 in San Francisco by Tina Root and Susan Wallace. They released their first demo cassettes, Fable and "Elegy", in 1992 and 1993 respectively. Their debut album, Serpentine Gallery, was released in 1995 on Cleopatra Records, blending electropop, gothic rock, and alternative rock with a distinctive atmospheric sound. The band's first US tour followed in 1996 with Christian Death and Big Electric Cat. In 1997, they released Bread and Jam for Frances, which saw a shift towards trip-hop. The album The Three Calamities was released in 1999 following tours with Gary Numan and Front Line Assembly. The band disbanded later that year due to personal and artistic differences.
