Matthew Scott "Matt" Giraud, born on May 11, 1985 in Dearborn, Michigan, is an American singer-songwriter and musician. He began his musical journey as a drummer and vocalist in church before attending Western Michigan University. His breakthrough moment came when he auditioned for the eighth season of American Idol in 2009. Despite not initially making the finals, Giraud was brought back through the Wild Card show, securing his place in the Top 13. He finished fifth in the competition. Giraud released the albums Perspective in 2003 and Mind, Body and Soul in 2006.
