Onward Brass Band, a jazz group from New Orleans, was founded around 1886. Initially led by Joseph Othello Lainez and later by Manuel Perez, the band gained popularity through performances at picnics, festivals, parades, and baseball games. The ensemble included notable musicians such as Isidore Barbarin, George Filhe, Lorenzo Tio Jr., Peter Bocage, George Baquet, and King Oliver. In 1960, Paul Barbarin and Louis Cottrell Jr. revived the Onward Brass Band name for a new ensemble, which continued to perform traditional brass band music. The group released albums, including Paul Barbarin's Onward Brass Band In Concert 1968 (2000). Notable members of this iteration included Cag Cagnolatti, Kid Howard, Andrew Morgan, Joe Thomas, Louis Barbarin, Alvin Alcorn, Danny Barker, and Freddie Kohlman. The band continued to perform at significant events such as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival until 2011.
