Elaiza, a German band from Berlin, was formed in 2013 by Elżbieta "Ela" Steinmetz on vocals and piano, Laura Zimmermann on accordion and violin, Natalie Plöger on string bass, and Yvonne Grünwald on accordion and Glockenspiel. Steinmetz began her career as a singer-songwriter at Valicon-Studios in Berlin at age 16. Elaiza released their first album Gallery in March 2014 and won the newcomer award at the Women of the World Festival. In January 2014, they released an EP featuring "Is It Right" and "Fight Against Myself". The song "Is It Right", written with Mesanic Music headwriter Adam Kesselhaut, led to their participation in the German preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. They won the televoting and represented Germany at the contest in Copenhagen on May 10, 2014. Grünwald left the band in August 2016. Elaiza's subsequent albums include Restless (released in May 2016) and Liebe & Krieg in 2020.
