The Grumbleweeds are a British comedy band from Leeds, established in 1962. Founded by Robin Stewart Colvill, the original lineup included Maurice Lee on guitar, Graham Paul Walker on bass, and brothers Carl and Albert Sutcliffe. The group turned professional in 1967 following success on the talent show Opportunity Knocks. They released their debut studio album, In a Teknikolor Dreem, in 1971, followed by Al Bum in 1976. The band achieved mainstream fame with The Grumbleweeds Radio Show, which aired on BBC Radio 2 from 1979 to 1988, and a subsequent ITV series. Notable recordings include the 1981 album Worravagorrinmepocket and the 1972 track “String of Beads”. Following the death of Walker in 2013, Colvill fulfilled commitments with Peter Piper before partnering with James Brandon in 2014. The group remains active as of 2026, with Colvill as the only member to serve from formation to the present.
