Sławomir Kulpowicz, born on January 17, 1952, in Warsaw, Poland, was a pianist known for his work in modern jazz and new music. He began piano lessons at an early age and studied at the Music Academy in Warsaw before moving to Katowice, where he played in a student big band. In 1976, Kulpowicz joined Zbigniew Namysłowski's band, touring Europe and recording five albums until 1978. He then formed The Quartet with Tomasz Szukalski, Paweł Jarzębski, and Janusz Stefański, serving as the group's main composer. From 1980 onwards, Kulpowicz performed with his own groups, including the trio In/formation. He composed film music for Rh+ (2005). Kulpowicz passed away from cancer on February 7, 2008. Notable albums include Samarpan (1987), Astral Codes (1992), and the posthumous releases Three Études / Prasad In Mangalore (2009) and Private Balet Music (2013).
