Sharam Q, a pioneering Japanese pop-rock band formed in 1988, are known for their blend of rock, J-pop, and funk influences. The band originally consisted of Tsunku (vocals), Hatake (guitar), Makoto (drums), and Shu (bass). Sharam Q rose to prominence in the early 1990s, debuting with "18kagetsu" (18ヶ月, 18 months) in 1992. Their music often featured a combination of Tsunku’s powerful vocals and Hatake's distinctive guitar work, imbuing rock energy with a pop sensibility that widened their reach. Sharam Q achieved mainstream success with hits like 1994's "Single Bed," ("シングル・ベッド, Shinguru Beddo")—used in the DNA² anime series—"Zurui Onna" ("ズルい女")—which cracked the Japanese Top 10 in 1995—and "My Babe Kimi ga Nemuru Made," ("My Babe 君が眠るまで, My Babe Until You Sleep")—also hitting the Top 10 in 1995—becoming a dominant force in the Japanese music scene by the mid-1990s. With a strong visual aesthetic and television presence, their music often addressed themes of love, heartbreak, and human relationships, resonating with fans across Japan. They went on hiatus in 2000 but reunited in 2006 and released a new single, "Aruiteru" (歩いてる, Walking Along). However, they were forced to stop working in 2015 after Tsunku revealed that he had his vocal cords removed as part of his treatment for laryngeal cancer.
