South Auckland artist Mayank Kumar is known to be a compelling musician and a gifted songwriter in his hometown of Papatoetoe. From Nadi, Fiji, Kumar's poeticized lyrics and memorable melodies captivate listeners to keep his music on repeat.
Inspired by his mother, alongside other musical talents such as Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, and Michael Bublé, Kumar started singing at a young age, performing songs for school events and eventually posting covers on YouTube.
During high school, however, Kumar started focusing on his original compositions, and the teen won back-to-back songwriting competition awards over time. His songs, "Me & You", "Let Me Breathe", & "Miss You", were three of those tracks that won placements, leading him to record said songs professionally at the renowned Parachute Studios in Aotearoa. His song, "Let Me Breathe" (about climate change), also earned the 'Best Song' award at the Smokefree Tangata Beats Regional Finals, which he wrote with his band, November Falls.
Since then, Mayank Kumar has been working on solo projects in which he aims to showcase his musical style, personality and identity. He hopes to use his storytelling skills to paint pictures with his music, ultimately producing songs his listeners fall in love with.
