Jo Hang-jo (born Hong Won-pyo on October 16, 1959) is a South Korean trot singer known for his deep, emotional vocal style. He began his musical career in 1976, performing rock music in underground live clubs. In 1978, he became the lead vocalist of the band Seogi 1999 and officially debuted with the song "나 정말 그대를 (I Really Love You)." Although active in the music industry for years, Jo Hang-jo rose to fame in 1997 with the hit song "남자라는 이유로 (Because I Am a Man)", composed by Im Jong-su with lyrics by Kim Soon-gon. This song became his signature piece and cemented his status as a leading trot artist. His style blends slow-beat ballads with traditional trot elements, resonating with a broad audience. His 2013 song, "사랑찾아 인생찾아 (Searching for Love, Searching for Life)" was featured in the KBS drama Wang’s Family, and his 2015 release "그놈에 사랑 (That Love)" became the soundtrack for Protect the Family. Over the years, he has continued releasing heartfelt music, including "고맙소" (2017) and "고마운 사람에게" (2025).
