King Kong is an American indie rock project formed in Louisville, Kentucky by bassist Ethan Buckler. Buckler began the project in late 1988 and left Slint the following year. King Kong’s first EP, Movie Star (1989), featured contributions from the band’s three remaining Slint members. David Pajo, Britt Walford, and Brian McMahan. The project went on to feature an ever-changing lineup including Richard Schuler, John McEntire, David Grubbs, and Peter Townsend. King Kong's debut album, Old Man on the Bridge, was released in 1991. Subsequent albums were released under Drag City and include Funny Farm (1993), Me Hungry (1995), and Kingdom of Kong (1997). The song "Movie Star" was used in the end credits of the 2014 Slint documentary, Breadcrumb Trail. In 2018, King Kong released three singles: "60s Apartment Building Balcony", "Pawnshopolis", and "Pigeon Man".
