Arckanum, a Swedish black metal band from Mora, was founded in 1992 by Johan "Shamaatae" Lahger, who served as the band's sole constant member and primary songwriter. Prior to Arckanum, Lahger played drums for Grotesque, the precursor to At the Gates, and formed a death metal band named Absorption with his brother Sataros, later renamed Disenterment. In 1993, Arckanum released their first demo, Demo-93, featuring Sataros and Loke Svarteld. Following this, Lahger continued Arckanum as a solo project, releasing the demo Trulen in 1994. Between 1995 and 1998, Lahger released three albums—Fran marder, Kostogher, and Kampen—through Necropolis Records. Notable releases include the split EPs with Contamino and Svartsyn, as well as the album Antikosmos in 2008 via Debemur Morti Productions. The band is known for their melodic, atmospheric black metal style and lyrics inspired by chaos gnosticism and Greek and Germanic mythology.
