Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, John Hayes is an American multi-instrumentalist composer and producer. His music blends ambient, minimalism, electronica and contemporary classical elements. After classical piano training, he turned to self-taught composition, drawing inspiration from minimal and experimental music. In 2018, he released his first solo album, By the Woods, devoted entirely to the piano. This was followed by The Last Best Place (2020), collaborations such as Borealis with Maxy Dutcher (2020) and Du Nord with Elskavon (2020), as well as more rhythmic explorations in the electronic realm with projects such as Bloom (2024) and Closer (2025).
