Arne Van Petegem, known professionally as Styrofoam and formerly as Tin Foil Star, is a Belgian musician. He began playing guitar at 12 and formed his first band at 15, influenced by Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., and Hüsker Dü. Van Petegem gained recognition in the electronica scene through Styrofoam releases on Morr Music, including The Point Misser (2000) and Nothing’s Lost (2004), the latter featuring collaborations with artists such as Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie. In 2008, he released A Thousand Words on Nettwerk Records, with guest appearances from Jim Adkins of Jimmy Eat World and Blake Hazard of The Submarines. He also co-founded and contributed to Dieter Sermeus’ project The Go Find, recording the album Miami.
