Sean Bergin, born June 29, 1948, in Durban, South Africa, was a saxophonist and flautist known for his contribution to jazz. His career began at Durban's Blue Note Club, where he played despite apartheid restrictions. In the early 1970s, Bergin ventured into psychedelic rock with Abstract Truth. He moved to London in 1973, collaborating with Dudu Pukwana and Chris McGregor, before settling in Amsterdam in 1976. Notable projects include MOB, started in 1986, and Nansika, dedicated to South African jazz. Bergin received the VPRO/Boy-Edgar Prize in 2001. He passed away on September 1, 2012.
