Formed in 2021 by school friends in Manchester, The Guest List began as a tight-knit group of music students jamming to The Strokes and posting high-energy indie covers online. Their chemistry quickly translated to TikTok success, where they amassed over 40,000 followers and nearly eight million likes. But viral attention wasn’t enough. Spotting what they felt was a gap in meaningful guitar music, they pivoted from covers to original songs driven by sharp songwriting and something increasingly rare: sincerity.
Frontman Cai Alty’s lyrics confront the modern world head-on. Early single “Weatherman” channels generational anxiety around climate change, while other tracks explore mental health, male suicide, domestic abuse and society’s simmering rage. Their work questions how online algorithms amplify hate and division, capturing a generation stuck between digital noise and a longing for connection. At heart, their debut album Something Real (2026) is a statement of intent—big, emotional indie songs grappling with truth, confusion and the search for authenticity.
Championing real-world gig culture over passive scrolling, they have a potent combination of observant lyrics and melody, comparable to early Arctic Monkeys and The Smiths. The band have built a grassroots following, selling out headline shows and touring with major indie acts.
