Philippe Auguin, born on February 19, 1961 in Nice, France, is a conductor. His early passion for composers such as Alban Berg, Arnold Schönberg, and Anton Webern led him to study music in Vienna before continuing his education in Florence. His repertoire spanned from Mozart and Bruckner to Stravinsky and Bartók, as well as contemporary composers like Hans Werner Henze and Pierre Boulez. He began his career assisting Herbert von Karajan and Georg Solti, then debuted with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in 1989. Auguin has collaborated with prestigious orchestras including those of the Metropolitan Opera and La Scala de Milan. In 2010, he was appointed director musical of the Washington National Opera, becoming the first French director musical of an opera company in the United States. At the same time, he took on the role of music director of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra.
