Brian Carpenter’s Ghost Train Orchestra, an American musical group based in New York City, was formed in 2006 when Brian Carpenter was commissioned as musical director for a historic theater's 90th anniversary celebration in Boston. The band initially performed overlooked music from late 1920s Chicago and Harlem, leading to the release of their debut album Hothouse Stomp in 2011 on Accurate Records. In 2013, they released Book of Rhapsodies, showcasing chamber-jazz works from the 1930s and '40s. The band continued with Hot Town in 2015 and Book of Rhapsodies Vol. II in 2017. In 2023, Ghost Train Orchestra collaborated with Kronos Quartet on the album Songs and Symphoniques: The Music of Moondog, which led to a live performance at New York's Town Hall in April 2024 featuring guest vocals by David Byrne and Karen Mantler.
