Aktuala was an Italian ensemble formed in 1972 in Milan by Walter Maioli. The group’s name translates to "actual" in Esperanto. The band incorporated elements of African and Asian music into the world music and progressive folk genres. The original lineup featured Maioli and saxophonist Daniele Cavallanti. The ensemble released its eponymous debut studio recording, Aktuala, in 1973 through Bla Bla Records. In 1974, the group released the album La Terra, which was considered a precursor to the world music genre. During this period, the ensemble collaborated with Claudio Rocchi on the recording Il Miele dei pianeti le isole le api. Following a research trip to Morocco in 1975, the group recorded the album Tappeto volante, which appeared in 1976. The ensemble became inactive that same year. Walter Maioli subsequently continued his career as a solo artist.
