Born in Paris, France on June 21, 1986, musician and actress Lucile Boulanger is considered one of the best viola da gamba players in her home country and around the world. She began studying this baroque instrument at age of five with Christine Plubeau. She eventually attended the National Conservatory of Paris where her teachers were Arianne Maurette, Jérôme Hantaï and Christophe Coin. At the same time, she began a career as an actress on television in the series A Nanny Like No Other (1994) and produced numerous French-language voice overdubs for cinema and television. She has performed the voice of Dora, the Explorer in the animated series of the same name. Lucile Boulanger also provided the voice of Lilly Truscott in Hannah Montana (2006-2011). She doesn’t neglect her music career and after graduating from the conservatory in 2004, she won first prize at the Bach-Abel Competition in Köthen, Germany (2009) and third prize at the Musica Antiqua International Competition in Bruges (2011). She released two volumes of pieces by Jean-Sébastien Bach and Carl Philip Emanuel Bach with Arnaud de Pasquale, then collaborated on several collections by François Joubert-Caillet and the L'Achéron ensemble, including volumes of pieces for viola by Marin Marais. Her catalog includes Bach: Sonate à Cembalo è Viola da Gamba (2012), Holborne: The Fruit of Love (2014), Gibbons: Fancies for the Viols (2017), Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe et Ses Filles (2020), Marais: Quatrième livre de pièces de viole (2021), and Bach - Abel: Solo (2022). While she gives frequent solo recitals, she is also an in-demand chamber music artist and has performed and recorded with Philippe Pierlot, François Lazarevitch, Justin Taylor, Alice Piérot, L’Achéron and large ensembles such as Pygmalion, Correspondances, Vox Luminis, and Les Epopées.
