Sonny Smith, born in 1972 in San Francisco, is an American musician, playwright, and multimedia artist. He started playing blues piano in bars at seventeen. His breakthrough came with This Is My Story, This Is My Song (2002), which gained him cult status. Smith's work blends blues, folk, pop, and rock, influenced by his travels in Central America. In 2003, he created a CD of one-act plays for Watchword literary magazine, leading to the musical The Dangerous Stranger. With Sonny & The Sunsets, Smith released several albums, including Tomorrow Is Alright (2009), which expanded their touring reach. Notable releases include Hit After Hit (2010) and Longtime Companion (2012). In 2018, Smith founded Rocks in Your Head Records, producing music for Sonny & The Sunsets and other artists.
