Shiner, an American post-hardcore/alternative rock band from Kansas City, Missouri, was formed in 1992 by Allen Epley (vocals, guitar), together with bassist Shawn Sherrill and drummer Jeff Brown, later joined by guitarist Tim Dow who replaced the original drummer. Emerging from the Midwestern post-hardcore and alternative rock scene, the group quickly became known for their angular guitar-driven sound, heavy rhythms, and a balance between aggressive intensity and melodic atmosphere. Initially known as Orchid, Shiner released their debut single "Brooks" in 1993 and their first LP, Splay, in 1995. The band underwent several lineup changes before releasing their sophomore and critically acclaimed album, Lula Divinia, in March 1997. Their third full-length, Starless, came out in April 2000, followed by The Egg in October 2001. After extensive touring, the band disbanded in January 2003 with a final performance at The Madrid Theater in Kansas City. Allen Epley went on to form and front The Life and Times, while other members pursued separate projects. Interest in the band endured through the 2000s, leading to a first reunion in 2012, with Epley, Josh Newton (guitare), Paul Malinowski (bass) and Jason Gerken (drums). The band released their fifth full-length album, Schadenfreude, in May 2020. Their discography was reissued on vinyl by Spartan Records in 2024. In July 2025, Shiner announced their upcoming album Believeyoume.
