Jovino Santos Neto, born on September 18, 1954, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a Brazilian-American jazz pianist and flutist. He began playing piano at age 13 and by 16 was performing with the Vacancy Group. Santos Neto joined Hermeto Pascoal's group in 1977, serving as pianist, flutist, composer, arranger, and producer until 1992. After relocating to the United States, he released several albums, including Roda Carioca (2006) and Alma do Nordeste (2008). Santos Neto has toured internationally with notable musicians such as Airto Moreira and Flora Purim. He taught at Seattle's Cornish College of the Arts for 26 years, ending in May 2020. His awards include the Artist Trust Fellowship (2001), IAJE/ASCAP Commission (2002), Chamber Music America New Works Jazz Composition Award (2003), and Northwest Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year by Earshot Jazz (2004).
