Digby George Richards, known professionally as Dig Richards, was an Australian rock and roll singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist born on September 12, 1940, in Dunedoo, New South Wales, Australia. At age 17, he joined The R'Jays as lead singer in 1958. Their first single "I Wanna Love You" peaked at number 8 on local radio charts in 1959. He became the first Australian rock and roll artist to record a 12" LP album with Dig Richards in 1959. He had four Top 30 national hit singles, including "(My) Little Lover / Quarrels (Are a Sad Sad Thing)" (1960), "A Little Piece of Peace" (1971), "People Call Me Country / The Dancer" (1972), and "Do the Spunky Monkey" (1974). He performed as a solo country music artist starting in 1971. He died of pancreatic cancer on February 17, 1983, in Sydney, Australia.
