Georg Wissel, born in 1964 in Cologne, Germany, is a saxophonist and clarinetist known for his work in creative jazz and new improvisational music. He grew up in Wanne-Eickel, influenced by the local music scene. Wissel's early career involved collaborations with ensembles like the London Improvisers Orchestra and Pöhl–Musik. His discography includes The Arte of Navigation (2001), a solo album highlighting his improvisational skills. He has performed at festivals across Europe, South America, the USA, Asia, and Australia, and contributed to albums such as Simon Rummel Ensemble’s Singinging (2023). Wissel has also been an educator, teaching saxophone at institutions including the Theodor-Fliegner-Gymnasium and the Open Jazz House School.
