Cynthia Ann Plotkin (born in Los Angeles), performing as Cindy Alexander, is an American folk-rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She studied at the USC School of Drama and played guitar and keyboards from an early age. In 1998, Alexander was named Songwriter of the Year at the Los Angeles Music Awards. She released her debut album, See Red, in 1999 on her independent label, JamCat Records. Alexander won the NBC talent competition Star Tomorrow in 2006. Her 2003 album, SMASH, featured the single “I’m So Sad that You’re Happy”, which received Pop Song of the Year from JP Folks. Following a 2013 breast cancer diagnosis, she became the first artist signed to Blue Élan Records. Her discography included Angels & Demons (2005), Curve (2014), and Messy (2023). Her music appeared in films including Here on Earth, Smokers, and Sugar & Spice. Alexander served as a celebrity ambassador for Breastcancer.org.
