Matecaña Orquesta, founded in 1990 in Guacarí, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, emerged as a salsa ensemble led by Neiver Calero, Harold Herrera, and Fernando Tigreros, with vocalists Fernando Tigreros and Víctor Hugo Agudelo and dancers Mairim Vargas and Diana Beatriz Cortés. The group’s breakthrough came with the 1991 album Infinito, featuring the hit "Se morirá el amor", which propelled the orchestra onto the national salsa scene. Over the next decade, Matecaña Orquesta released a steady stream of albums: Que Bueno (1992), Sentimental y Salvaje (1995), Hasta las 6 de la Mañana (1997), Dele Que No Viene el Carro (1999), El Último Y… Nos Vamos (2000), Vamos Pa' las Que Sean (2001), Con Todos los Juguetes (2002), Mastícalo (2003), Amanecerá y Veremos (2004), Péguele (2005), Y Hasta Más! (2006), Pa' Reventar (2008), and 20 Años, Lo Mejor y Lo Nuevo (2009). The orchestra adapted its style in 1996, blending classic hits with contemporary rhythms, and maintained its tropical essence. In 2016, Matecaña Orquesta released the singles "Si Te Vas de Mí", "No Te Creas Tan Importante", and "Limoncito con Rón", reaffirming its relevance. The group remained active for over 30 years, achieving chart success across Colombia and contributing to the evolution of salsa and tropical pop.
