James Edward Hand, born on July 7, 1952 in Waco, Texas, was an American country music singer and songwriter. He began playing guitar and singing at around twelve years old, performing in honky-tonks and roadhouses across Central Texas as a teenager. Hand released his first album Shadows Where the Magic Was in 1997, followed by Evil Things (1999), The Truth Will Set You Free (2006), Shadow on the Ground (2009), and Mighty Lonesome Man (2012). In 2014, Hand appeared as a fictional version of himself in the independent film Thank You a Lot. On June 8, 2020, James Edward Hand died from complications of heart failure. Posthumously, Charley Crockett released a tribute album titled 10 For Slim: Charley Crockett Sings James Hand on February 26, 2021, which received critical acclaim.
