Stephen Coombs, born on July 11, 1960 in Birkenhead, England, is a British pianist who began his musical journey at an early age. At 13, he won second prize in the English National Piano Competition and studied under Joan Slade and Heather Slade-Lipkin before attending the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music with Gordon Green. Coombs' career took off after winning the gold medal at the Liszt International Concourse in the 1980s, leading to performances with major orchestras worldwide. In 1989, he began recording for Hyperion Records, contributing extensively to their Romantic Piano Concerto series in 1992. His discography included notable albums such as Milhaud: Musique Pour 2 Pianos (2001) and Glazounov: Œuvres Pour Piano (intégrale, Volume 1) (2008).
