Los Cometas Azules de Mario Rosete, also known as Los Internacionales Cometas Azules, were formed in Puebla in the 1980s by accordionist and bandleader Mario Rosete, who led the group to prominence within the cumbia sonidera scene. Through live performances and a growing catalog of recordings, they built a reputation for melodic, romantic cumbias, later collected in anthologies like 2005's Cometas Azules (100% Sonideras) and 20 Éxitos, featuring classics such as “Cumbia Macarena,” “Camino al Paraíso,” “Patricia,” “Rosas Sin Espinas,” “Mala,” and “Disc Joker.” Entering the digital era, the band renewed their presence with new releases, notably the 2020 album Mesa para Uno, whose title track became a defining hit. In 2021 they followed with Quédate en Casa, while 2024 brought singles including “Nuestra Primera Vez,” “Te Necesito,” “Dime Que Me Quieres,” and “Atrapa el Amor,” reaffirming their place in the romantic cumbia tradition. Following Mario Rosete’s passing in 2024, the band continued under the leadership of his family, ensuring that his musical vision carried forward.
